Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory HBCU Week
October 31st - November 1st
2024

About the Event

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), along with the Department of Energy, is dedicated to increasing the number of underrepresented groups in STEM fields. To increase the awareness to historically marginalized groups about opportunities at national laboratories, we are hosting LLNL Week for students and faculty across various Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

LLNL staff, including HBCUs alumni, will give an overview of research at LLNL, the general culture, and internship, fellowship, and career opportunities. The event will include:

  • Career Panel: LLNL staff, including HBCU alumni, on career opportunities and work-life balance
  • Student Intern Panel: former interns from HBCUs on internship experiences and culture at LLNL
  • Breakout Information Sessions: LLNL staff discuss research, networking, and career paths in several academic disciplines
  • Faculty Collaboration Informational Sessions: discussion on ways for faculty to collaborate on research and student development
  • Resume Building Workshop: how to tailor resumes to apply to a national lab
  • Program Rep one-on-one conversations with recruiting representatives
  • Virtual 360 immersive tour of the National Ignition Facility, the world's highest energy laser
